Skin Cells Clestem KT(CST-101)
The stratum corneum of the skin, with a thickness of about 10-20 μm, plays an important role in preventing internal moisture loss and blocking the invasion of external harmful substances as a barrier function. Keratinocytes, which are the barrier cells of the human body, can be relatively easily isolated through skin tissue biopsy. Although various products are available, there are limitations in research and development due to the inconsistent cell conditions and short cell lifespan associated with donor and product variations, as well as the difficulty of long-term utilization.
To overcome these issues, CleCell has confirmed the potential for uniform cell differentiation and unlimited production through keratinocyte differentiation from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which can be cultured indefinitely. They have also demonstrated the possibility of creating various disease models, such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and aging, using cells derived from patients with skin disorders. CleCell is conducting research on artificial skin through the production of full-thickness and epidermis skin models, utilizing the advantages of these cells.
